Request for Public Records

The Tennessee Public Records Act (TPRA) grants Tennessee citizens the right to access public records that are in existence at the time of the request. Please note that the TPRA does not require records custodians to create, complete, or recreate records that do not already exist.

Fees for Copies

The following fees apply for the copying of public records:

  • Black and White Copies: $0.20 per 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper

  • Color Copies: $0.50 per 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper

 

Residency Requirement

Proof of Tennessee residency is required when submitting a request.

Agendas and Meeting Minutes

Agendas and meeting minutes are publicly accessible and can be found here. These records will not be provided via separate request.

How to Submit a Request

For records other than agendas and minutes, please complete the Public Records Request Form below. When submitting your request, be as specific as possible to help us locate the records efficiently. To assist in the search, please include:

  • A date range for the records (e.g., from Jan. 1, 2020 to the date of the request).

  • Any keywords or names of individuals associated with the records.

 

Fees and Payment

Requests that incur fees will only be processed once payment is received. Payments can be made:

  • In person at 300 East Main Street, Suite 102, Johnson City, TN 37601

  • By mail at PO Box 2482, Johnson City, TN 37605

Inspection of Records

You may inspect records in person at no cost. However, any request for copies of records during or after the inspection may incur fees based on the Office of Open Records Counsel schedule.
